A sneak peek into my new doll !
Geisha OOAK polymer clay doll
It's a Geisha (a Maiko actually), and while I'm done sculpting it I still have lots of work now with the hair and the kimono. Wish me luck!
My previous Geisha doll, Madame Butterfly, was painted with white acrylic on top of the polymer clay. That was not very efficient and so I chose a different approach now, by adding white polymer clay to the mixture (40% white/60% Cernit flesh). I was very pleased with the result as it looks very natural, and saved me a lot of time.

I have just finished and uploaded a new page about my polymer clay dolls, which will act as a central hub to my every project and tutorial I've done so far.

I have just finished and published my new tutorial on how to make eyes out of polymer clay!

Queen Iris is still in the dressing room, will post another update soon. Take care!

I finally managed to make the dress of Queen Iris, spent most of the night actually...
It's ready from the waist down, I'm now making the bodice and the upper/shoulder decorations. I'm trying various approaches and methods so this may not be the final  result. When I'm done with the dress I will begin making the hair  and then the fun part comes of adding embellishments, jewellery e.t.c.!

Happy April! Here's a teaser photo from Queen Iris, the project on which I'm currently working on:

Her dress is a total nightmare to tailor but I'm getting there. The fabric is very lightweight and I can't use my sewing machine so I'm hand stitching it...
Hope you like it!

Since many of you are wondering , I follow the method of baking repeatedly the figure, when it comes to sculpting polymer clay dolls. I make the head first, using a foil core to have a solid base , bake it, and set it aside. I then make the body (torso actually),again with a foil core, and attach the head, then guess what, I bake it again. I then make the feet and hands and attach them to the torso and give my figure a final visit in the oven. I only use Cernit Doll (flesh color preferably) for clay, which has an excellent resistance and behavior in multiple bakings (does not darken and blending raw clay over oven-hard pieces is very easy, with no visible seams).
Since most figures are to be dressed in various ways afterwards, extra care should be applied in the details of the head and hands ,though for a professional look  you have to sculpt all the details even if that body part is covered with clothes. And remember, sometimes the hard part is not actually sculpting the doll but dressing it and giving it personality. Sometimes it's hard to choose the right outfit, and a wrong choice can ruin the impression of an otherwise perfect figure. Solution: experiment. A lot. If you are afraid to experiment you are never gonna learn and achieve a higher level of technique. If you are making a specific figure ( character , historic figure e.t.c.) learn all you can about it, coz even the tiniest details count.
I haven't forgotten to post the new photos of Victoria but I was preoccupied in making my new figure , which is now in the stage of costuming. That's gonna take some time, you'll see what I mean when I post the photos.

Hi everybody! Well, as promised, here are the first photos of Victoria:

I'll be posting some new photos tomorrow but with a dark background, since the wedding dress will show better. So, what do you think? Hope you like it!
I already begun my new doll, just baked the head.May post a photo of it too tomorrow! Have fun creating!

Wednesday, March 13, 2013

I'm currently redesigning a bit the dress of Victoria to make it a little more dramatic.. Wish me luck!
I've also added some jewellery and some more feathers (though she still has a long way from looking like Dana International! :) )

First picture of Victoria! Still has some work to be done but most of the hard work is over. I'll post more photos and a video soon. I borrowed the name from the movie " Corpse Bride", by Tim Burton, though my doll bears no resemblance to the movie character whatsoever (wasn't my intention) .I just liked the name!

As per request , here is the tutorial for adding realistic hair to a polymer clay doll, using a kanekalon fiber wig. Adding hair to a one of a kind doll was never easier!
And if you're looking for help on how to dress the doll, check out this tutorial ,with valuable info on how to choose the right fabric and how you can make an outfit with it. Have fun creating!

Morning! I'm currently working on my new project, which is almost ready, apart from some minor touches here and there. I'll upload photos as soon as it's ready!
And here is my video of my geisha polymer clay doll!

Hi everybody! This is my new blog regarding polymer clay. I've been quite busy lately so I didn't had a chance to get this started, but now I'm back on the track. So here is my (new) website, along with my latest clay figures:
